Zeyr Eruption

The Eruption of Mt Zeyr, in 673af, was a pivotal moment of history for those inhabiting the continent of Zyraia. It devastated a large proportion of the southern half of Zyraia, with large ash scattering and settling far across the land. Strong earthquakes shook the continent for miles in every direction, collapsing countless buildings and destroying much of the infrastructure. Overnight, more than a million Guia'dan people lost their livelihood as almost all of the farmland in the Zeyr region were utterly ruined.

Effect

Ultimately, the eruption caused the inevitable downfall of Guia'dan. The Zycaina Empire had their sights set on the southern lands of Zyraia but the devastation caused by the eruption provided the perfect opportunity for the Zycaina Empire to seize an advantage over the Guia'dan.

Starvation, and sedition from Zycaina's spies led to a rebellion, which ended almost as quickly as it began, with the armies of Zycaina sweeping in and crushing what little remained of Guia'dan's diminished ranks.

The next few decades were particularly harsh for those living in the Zeyr region, but with the support of Emperor Anasûralii, who saw the future potential in rehabilitising the land, they survived. Much of the land immediately surrounding the mountain was left barren from lava flow. It took more than two decades for the lava to finally cool enough for people to return to where their villages and towns once existed.

Not much remains of these villages, as most of the buildings were constructed from wood. However, some shells of the larger stone constructs, such as town halls, castles and churches remained, their insides swamped with solidified lava.
