Ari'ielas

Ari'ielas (pronounced Aree-i-ay-laa), or in the Trader's Tongue, the Sunken Lands, is a region of islands south of the continent of Aesysreon. Once, it was an expansive land of low-lying plains, savannah grasslands riddled with meandering rivers, and home to the nomadic tribes of Syarii, but over the years the plains became submerged under the ocean, hence the Trader's name. In modern times, it is now an array of about 50 islands of varying size. While not all the islands are inhabited, most contain small settlements of the descendants of the Syarii tribes; a sea-faring people, the Sarinaas.

History

The lands of Ari'ielas were once joined to Aesysreon, although over time they drifted apart. The further the distance grew, the lower Ari'ielas sunk, until eventually the oceans flooded the savannahs, turning the what once was arid grasslands into swamplands.

Modern times, the continent is a mass of tropical islands, with the climate very different to what it was previously.

Many scholars predict that the islands will eventually disappear into the ocean entirely, perhaps as soon as within the next 1000 years.

Peoples

Ari'ielas was ever scarcely populated by humanity. Most of its' inhabitants consisted of grazing animals and their predators.

Unknown - 250pa (estimation)

The lands were populated by the nomadic tribes of the Syarii.

NOTE: For the time spanning between 250pa and 37af there is little to no historical evidence of whether Ari'ielas was inhabited by humans.

345af - Now

After the formation of the isles, and the sinking of the plains, the Sarinaas now inhabit the islands of Ari'ielas.
