The Uipa'tan is the northern desert region of Southern Aesysreon. In the language of the natives, the Iyltaan, Uipa is a bastardisation of the name of Uioipaola, while Tan refers to the desert landscape.

The Cataclysm was a defining event in the history of Aed'jhelas. It effected the lands of Aesysreon and triggered the sinking of Ari'ielas, the shockwave from the impact fracturing the continent and forming what is now an archipelago. Prior to the event, the lands of the Uipa'tan and Laia'tan were ruled by the Kara'tal Empire, and were lush with life, fertile soil and allowed the Empire to flourish and grow into dominance on the continent of Aesysreon.

The Kara'tal Empire (pronounced Kaa-ara-tahl) was a super power in Aedjhelas for just over 700 years, prior to the Cataclysm. The capital city, Ahrkan, was said to be a wonder to behold; a bustling mecca of trade and politics, sprawling beneath the shadow of a citadel from which the Emperor ruled with the might of an iron fist. The Cataclysm wiped out the Empire entirely, leaving naught but ash and bones lying in the sands of the modern day Laia'tan.

Aesysreon (pronounced Ay-sis-ree-on) is the largest continent of Aed'jhelas. Once home to the powerful Kara'tal Empire, the continent was irrevocably altered by the Cataclysm, turning the once lush, thriving southern regions into dusty, barren wastelands.

Laia'tan, the southern desert region of Aesysreon, very similar to the Uipa'tan, was named by the Iyltaan after the Eminent, Laiasaeoma.
